Working with Tweens &Teens
When I work with tweens or teens I will schedule periodic parent-child sessions to support open communication and keep the parent(s) informed. Involvement in the therapeutic process of your child is important, if not crucial.

However, an equally important aspect of treatment is to foster an individual's autonomy, and a great pleasure of treating adolescents is to watch as they come to enjoy their growing independence. One aspect of independence is privacy. As an adolescent grows into themselves, the surrounding zone of privacy should increase, thus making room for a more defined sense of self and a greater sense of autonomy. It is expected that parents will respect that.

During parent-child meetings we will address any inquiries you may have.  I understand working in this way requires a good amount of trust and I will work closely with you to ensure that you are comfortable with the parameters of privacy that we establish together.  Adolescents are informed of the limits of privacy, and that concern for their well being may, in specific times, require me to disclose information.
